Wedding Decor: Is "THEME" a bad word?

When planning your wedding, you envision a day that's beautiful, unique and totally YOU.  The best way to accomplish this is to personalize the day with a "theme."   There it is, yes I sait it...a theme.  I don't mean you need to have an all "butterfly" wedding or an island affair with inflatable palm trees at every table.  A theme can be anything that is subtly woven throughout various elements of your day.  For example, color, can be a theme.  Emotions you want to evoke, such as elegance and sophistication can be themes.  Highlighting the locale where you're marrying or passions you share are themes.

I am SO excited about an upcoming October wedding that I am planning with an awesome bride.  When we first began discussing her wedding she told me she wante a dramatic, bold, but classy event.  Actually, she told me not to take it too literally, but she wants the decor to look like a "highly stylized vampire movie."  I understood her descripton exactly.

Yesterday I met with one of my favorite decor specialists and we walked the ceremony and reception space discussing how to best carry out this theme (while staying within budget).  We plan to use tons of dramatic lighting, both candles and uplighting as well as dark, rich linens and elegant china.  We will play up the stone and wrought iron in the architecture, fireplaces and chandaleirs at the venue.  I am so excited about this wedding and can't wait to share the pictures.  In addition to the decor, we are working on carrying the theme throughout various elements of the wedding.

Here are some pictures of a wedding with the theme being the element of predominant green woven throught the wedding. Please visit our gallery to see images of other themes we've helped brides create for their weddings.

Gretel and Nic's historic downtown Denver Wedding

It was a joy working with Nic and Gretel and their families for this unique summer wedding.  The ceremony was downtown in Skyline Park an the reception was at the historic Baur's Restorante.  The couple was able to have their bridal presentation at the top of the gorgous D&F tower and Edward of DeCroce Photography captured some amazing artistic wedding images.  Best wishes to an amazing couple!

Welcome to our new blog!!

After opening Weddings By Design almost 7 years ago, I'm finally taking the plunge and starting my own wedding planning blog!  I guess it's about time!  I can't wait to share tons of tips and insider advice as well as beautiful photos of personalized Colorado weddings.  I LOVE my job as a wedding planner in the beautiful Denver area and the stunning Rocky Mountains.  Our state has so much to offer for brides and grooms planning unique, personal weddings and I look forward to sharing information about fabulous local vendors and venues as well.

One of the most exciting things about this blog for me is that I'll also get to share the information from my book, The Quizzical Bride's Wedding Guide, which includes twenty five quizzes and follow up information which guide brides (and grooms!) through the process of planning a meaningful, exraordinary wedding!

Please come back and visit often and let me know if you've found some great local vendors or seen some really unique ideas that you think we should share with other brides and grooms planning their Colorado weddings!
